FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do you take insurance?

We do not accept insurance currently. However, we can provide you with an itemized list of services as an “out-of-network” provider for you to submit to your insurance company after your evaluation, known as a “super bill.” You will be responsible for contacting your insurance company to verify your benefits and reimbursement. For more information, please visit our Fees page.

  • What ages do you evaluate?

We evaluate all ages, including adults. We also evaluate infants and toddlers as young as 12 months (developmental evaluations). For more information, please visit our Services page.

  • Do you provide payment plans or discounts?

We offer payment plans (usually 2-3 payment installments) on a case-by-case basis. We provide discounts for children under age 7, siblings, and repeat evaluations. Adults seeking an autism evaluation are eligible to apply for a sliding scale fee on a case-by-case basis. Also, please see our Autism Screening option.

  • Do you provide psychotherapy?

We may be able to provide short-term focused psychotherapy (2-5 sessions) for our clients who underwent an evaluation with us. Examples of goals can include assisting with insight into the client’s neurodivergence or working on specific coping skills.

  • Do you provide medication?

We do not prescribe medication. An evaluation can assist with determining if your child is a possible candidate for medication. We will provide recommendations to providers who can assist with medication management.

  • How much does an evaluation cost?

Please refer to our Fees page. We believe in being transparent about our fees and are happy to discuss further with you to determine the best option. We can also provide a Good Faith Estimate. Please contact us directly with questions.

  • Who conducts the assessment?

The testing is administered directly by our providers. Rarely, some tests may be administered by a psychometrist who has specialized training in test administration and behavioral observation. The providers will always conduct most of the assessment and are completely responsible for interpretation and writing.

  • What types of tests are administered?

We administer a range of standardized tests intended to measure cognitive, social, and emotional functioning. Tests are administered via iPad, computer, and paper-and-pencil.

  • Does a neuropsychological evaluation include academic testing?

Academic testing can be included for an additional fee. Of note, academic testing is not typically covered by insurance.

  • How do I know if I need to add on academic testing?

Academic testing is commonly added on in cases where a specific learning disability (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, nonverbal learning disorder) is suspected. If there are concerns for specific academic areas, adding on academic testing may be helpful. We are happy to add this on at any point of the evaluation process. Your clinician can help you make this decision if you are unsure. Please contact us directly with any questions.

  • Do you evaluate for autism?

Yes, we offer targeted and add-on autism evaluations, as well as autism screenings. We also offer adult autism evaluations.

  • Do you conduct the ADOS-2?

Yes, we are trained in the ADOS-2 and use it when appropriate. However, it is not the only measure we use. We also use the MIGDAS-2, ADI-2, and BOSA, as well as questionnaires.

  • How is a neuropsychological evaluation different from a school evaluation?

School evaluations are often referred to as “psychoeducational evaluations.” These usually focus on skills needed for academic success. However, these evaluations do not diagnose disorders and are not as comprehensive as a neuropsychological evaluation.

  • Is telehealth available?

The testing session occurs in-person at either our Rockville, MD, or Mechanicsburg, PA, office. Intake and Feedback appointments are usually via telehealth using our HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform. However, in-person preference can be accommodated after discussing with your provider.

  • What is contained in the final report?

The report consists of background information, behavioral observations during the assessment, a results summary, clinical and diagnostic impressions, and tailored practical recommendations for how to be supported at home, school or work, and in the community.
